Using Whiterose, Year 5 will continue to develop their arithmetic and reasoning skills.
During the Autumn term, Year 5 will explore:
- Place Value
- Addition and Subtraction
- Multiplication and Division A
- Fractions A
Children are encouraged to continue using URBRAINY and TT Rockstars to secure their times table knowledge.
Our English units will incorporate a variety of high-quality texts that will inspire our writing. Following our 10 day cycle, Year 5 will use a range of features within their writing that match the genre. They will continue to use purple pen to edit and upskill their work, independently.
This term, Year 5 are exploring forces. Using Explorify, alongside other retrieval opportunities, Year 5 will revisit their prior learning during the forces unit. Within this unit, Year 5 will explore gravity, air resistance, water resistance and friction. To conclude each session, Year 5 will develop their oracy skills by discussing a 'prove it' statement.
Throughout the year, Year 5 will alternate between Geography and History. This term, Year 5 will be studying the 'Anglo-Saxons'. Next term, for the first Geography focus, Year 5 will explore 'Changes In Our Local Environment'.
- PE days are Tuesday and Thursday.
- Spellings and arithmetic questions are sent home every Friday. We expect children to practice their spellings at least three times a week.
- Children should also be reading a book at least three times a week, and any reading should be logged on Boom Reader. Children can change their books in the school library, providing they return the book.
- T T Rockstars logins have been sent home and it is recommended that children use the website to embed their knowledge of the multiplication facts.
